Who uses it

When to send it

Advisors send this a few weeks before each client’s annual review. It catches the changes a client forgets to mention: a new job, a move, a marriage, a new baby, an inheritance.

It also asks for what you cannot see from your own systems: the latest tax return, statements for accounts held elsewhere, and any new insurance policies.

Tips

Getting it back complete

  • Send it two or three weeks before the meeting, so there is time to read what comes back.
  • Offer a checklist of life events rather than an open question. People tick boxes they would never think to write down.
  • Ask every year whether the client wants to review their beneficiaries. It is the change most often missed.
  • Use the same form each year, so this year’s answers can be read against last year’s.
